This was originally going to be a top ten list, but it sort of... grew. Then I was going to rank it by favorites, but that's always been hard for me. Bloody

I had another bad platelet donation experience last week. This time the pressure of the returning blood was too high and it popped the vein. Then we tried to put the blood back in the other arm and THAT vein popped. I've got some fairly spectacular bruises. I think I'm going to go back to just donating whole blood.

Writer's Block: R.I.P

What do you want done with your body after you die?

Organ donation, followed by cremation of the remains, then buried and a tree put over my ashes. Not in a graveyard.

Black & Decker

I just submitted a product idea to Black & Decker for a new type of barrel bolt lock. I'll have to wait 3-5 weeks for a response. I'm kind of excited - it'd be really cool if something I designed was actually made and sold in stores.

Writer's Block: Scary movie

What is the scariest horror flick you’ve seen?
House on Haunted Hill 1999 version.  I don't watch scary movies because i am a big wuss. The only reason I saw this one was because my boyfriend at the time promised me it wouldn't be that scary. That liar.

Busy, busy

It's been an eventful few days. This last weekend I had the sex talk with my nine-year old daughter (Emily). It went pretty well; she thought it was weird and kinda gross, but seemed curious about it. (And of course the inevitable "Did you and Daddy do that?") I also gave her a book to keep that she can read for more information on her own, as well as told her she can ask me anything she wants. And she has asked a few questions since then, so i feel I've done my job.

Yesterday my car broke down. It turns out that the battery connection was bad, as well as a dying battery, so $130 later it's all set. It's the first time my car just stopped while I was driving it because of the battery. Usually it just won't start. At least it waited until I pulled into the summer camp parking lot before it stalled. It would have sucked if it happened on the road.

I'm back to studying Japanese again. I'm reviewing the lessons I already learned to get back up to speed. I have a couple of semi-long term goals. First is to pass the level 5 Japanese Language Proficiency Test. I also want to get to a level where I can read the Fujimi Orchestra novels.

Tomorrow I'm buying donuts for Emily's summer camp as an end-of-summer thank-you. 5 dozen donuts, half glazed and half chocolate glazed. I'll let the counselors deal with the resulting sugar rush.

We registered Emily for 4th grade this morning. I always feel surprised when I see how big she's getting. I wonder when she'll stop wanting me to go with her on the first day. (It won't be this year, she already told me she wants me to go with her.)

Late

My boss had me pick up some tax papers to fill out - and they were due back in April. I procrastinate to the last second, but he's definitely got me beat in that department.

The Tryant Falls In Love

Morinaga and Sempai all the way! They are the main characters from "The Tyrant Falls In Love" series by Takanaga Hinako. Morninaga has been in love with Senpai for 5 YEARS! That is serious devotion. Plus, the relationship progressed in a believable way - no sudden "I'm gay!" realization, and Semapi is still very much a man, not a flat-chested girl. The two have incredible chemistry, and despite Sempai's protests he can't really deny Morinaga, emotionally or physically. (And may I say, the physical part of the relationship is HOT.)  They also have an interesting relationship outside the bedroom, interacting with friends and family, as well as dealing with school and work. But the real focus is on the emotional relationship. You really come to like and care for the characters. Sometimes you get mad at them, or laugh at them, but you always cheer them on.

I really love the side characters too. Isogai is absolutely hilarious with a wonderfully deviant sense of humor. Kanako is so funny in how she accepts Souichi's relationship with Morinaga far before he does! In fact, I like his whole family. (And Souichi really looks a lot like his dad.) The contrast with Morinaga's family brings in a more serious note, reminding us how many gay people struggle to get their families to accept them. It also gave us a really sweet moment between Senpai and Morinaga.

I also love the artwork from the series. You really can see how people move in the drawings - no stiff feeling, like mannequins posing. The facial expressions are also very well done - they really convey feelings. There is also a good variety in character styles. You can easily tell the different characters apart with a glance.
